Shulamit Hoffmann is founder and artistic director of Viva la Musica!, an adult choir in the California Bay Area. She is also a faculty member of the College of San Mateo. She has served on the faculties of University of Cape Town and University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), Idaho State University, Brigham Young University Idaho, and University of Notre Dame de Namur, California.
Currently a doctoral student at Teachers College, Columbia University, she holds a Master of Arts in choral conducting (San José State University), Master of Music in piano performance (Lewis and Clark College, Portland, OR), Bachelor of Music (University of Witwatersrand, South Africa), and Teacher's Licentiate Diplomas in Music from the University of South Africa and from the Royal Schools of Music, London.
A recipient of overseas study scholarships from the University of South Africa and the Cape Tercentenary Foundation, she was named Outstanding Graduate of the Year in the San José State School of Music and Dance in 2001. In 2002 she was honored with a U.S. Congressional Award for her musical contributions to her community and in 2007 her professional biography was entered into the Congressional Record of the United States of America by then Congressman Tom Lantos. |
